However, Crusaders were not going to give up at any stage, even when in foul trouble, with Mathew Ganderton scoring when needed to keep them in the game.
Ganderton scored 18 of his team’s 29 points.
Box Railers managed to stay in front and played some smart basketball in the dying minutes of the game with Ben Asbury (most valuable player) scoring along with Darcy Bourke on the free throw line, ensuring they got the win 35 to 29.
The 14 girls grand final was between the New Bay Mowers v South Pacific Roof Trusses. This game looked to be another close one, as New Bay Mowers started off slow and let their opposition score.
New Bay Mowers ran away a little in the last quarter to be the victors for this season. Both teams made a valiant effort, and all contributed to the score line as well as with defence and rebounds. Maddie Minehan was most valuable player for her defence all game.
The Moruya under 16 Swans team took on the Brats team, which has a couple of the 2010 under 18 girls players, in the A grade women’s grand final.
The Brats started off early with Tayla Moore scoring 10 points. Taylah Connaughton, Nikki Lawarick and Alisha Meek scored in the first half to rattle the Swans team. Meek intercepted everything within reach, and rebounded every missed shot at the Brats defensive end. Swans only scored three baskets in the first quarter to Brats nine.
Both teams improved their defence in the next quarter, and in the third quarter, the eye was on the basket and Swans came back to win the quarter 19 to 15. Great scoring from Abbey Harrison and Sarah Hazell got them back into the game.
In the final quarter the whole of the Brats team fired again, and with great passing and transition, they came out winners 66 to Swans’ 49. Alisha Meek was named most valuable player for this game.
Tuesday’s B grade women’s grand final was yet another nail-biter, with the Blush’s girls 34 coming out winners against the Smashing Pumpkins 31. The most valuable player for this grand final was Hayley Bettridge.
