Moruya SES unit controller Jeff McMahon, said they had received an ‘out of area assistance request’ for a ‘long list of places’. He and volunteer Wayne Glynn are on standby.
“We have said we can assist anywhere, anytime and we are waiting for the call,” he said.
Mr McMahon said helping out of area allowed them to learn new skills for local emergency responses.
“It helps us here in case we have a similar situation,” he said.
“When we were helping in Cowra and the Lachlan River peaked it was really good for us to watch what they did and see how it compares with us.
“It allowed us to learn their methods and see how the different groups interact.”
Mr McMahon said there was no need for Eurobodalla residents to fear the worsening inland storm as bad westerly fronts rarely hit the coast.
“It’s when there is a low-pressure system off the coast that we get a hiding,” he said
“When it’s from the west we are protected.”
