Only Murders in the Building sees Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez) named persons of interest in the murder of Arconia building manager Bunny Folger (Jayne Houdyshell).
All need to clear their names to make the most of exciting opportunities they've received following the success of their first podcast season (where they solved the murder of Tim Kono), so they launch into a second season - which of course leads to many self-referential jokes.
Only Murders in the Building gets some new cast members this season with the addition of Amy Schumer, who plays herself, the new tenant of Sting's now vacant apartment; Cara Delevigne, as art gallery curator Alice and love interest for Mabel; and Shirley MacLaine as the late Bunny's mother.
The Martin/Short/Gomez trio continues to be an absolute masterstroke. Their chemistry and comic timing is excellent and incredibly watchable. Each episode will leave you desperate for the next instalment.
The Umbrella Academy
Disney+
Just when the Hargreeves' think they've prevented the apocalypse and can finally have a rest, what should happen?
Another apocalypse of course!
Season three of The Umbrella Academy sees the crew transported back to 2019 after being stuck in the 1960s, but the 2019 they left is not the same anymore.
It turns out their father adopted a whole new batch of special children (excepting Ben, who is back and alive) who are now called The Sparrow Academy and are more ruthless than their Umbrella counterparts.
This show has always been out-of-the-box wacky and this season is no exception. Now the crew has to stop a glowing reddish orb from sucking up everything in the universe. As always the music is great and there's a fun dance sequence, but this season also sees the characters forced to grow in ways they haven't done before.
Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman) is battling grief and becoming more and more bitter and enraged, Luther (Tom Hopper) opens himself up to love, Diego (David Castaneda) and Lila (Ritu Arya) find themselves with some precious cargo and Klaus (Robert Sheehan, ever the scene-stealer) comes to terms with death.
And Vanya embraces a new identity to become Viktor, mirroring Elliot Page's own transition. This is handled beautifully in a storyline written in collaboration with Page.
The Twelve
Binge
Courtroom dramas always make for riveting TV, and Foxtel's new offering The Twelve is no exception. The Aussie show follows the jurors and trial of artist Kate Lawson (Kate Mulvany), accused of killing her 14-year-old niece. However, no body has been found. Each of the jurors also has more going on in their lives, especially Brooke Satchwell's Georgina who lives with an abusive husband. Also stars Sam Neill, Marta Dusseldorp, Matt Nable, Brendan Cowell and more.
