The audio was fine, but he has a hyper-attentive ear for quality. It is fitting for the musician who has just accepted an offer to study a Masters in Music (Music Technology) at New York University.
He is going to specialise in spatial audio - sound moving through a space - and his passion is "recreating environments through immersive audio set ups" - for example surround sound, virtual reality and immersive sound.
He has always loved music, no single first-memory stands out, but his life has been a constant symphony of music memories and experiences. He was formerly guitarist in the popular local band Cuppa Shred.
"Music just captured my attention in a significant way where I wanted to be a part of that scene and be a part of creating an experience in people," Mr Ryan said.

He starts studying in New York in September, and has been awarded two scholarships to help with relocating and studying in America: the Australian American Association Award - Aurora Indigenous Scholarship and the Australian Council of the Arts grant.
He spent six months preparing both applications, and was absolutely thrilled when told he had been successful.
"It has hit me that I am going to New York and I am super excited to go there," he said.
"It's New York. It's amazing. The music scene is amazing. It's got a history for being an arts hub."
The Masters degree will take two years of full time study. Afterwards, Mr Ryan wants to pursue a PhD in spatial and immersive audio.
