Mr Elwin Bell Senior, a resident of both Mogo and Queanbeyan, returned to Caseys Beach in Batehaven for the 2021-2022 summer, providing a welcome sense of fun and normality for families after two tough summers, both for the carnival industry and for carnival go-ers.
The carnival boasts all the most popular rides: the Matterhorn, the Hurricane and the No Limits with the noticeable and popular new addition of the drifting dodgem cars. There is a sideshow alley where you can win yourself a prize throwing balls, or shooting hoops or choosing rubber ducks. There are merry-go-rounds, cup-and-saucers, super slides and dancing pirate ships.
When you start growing hungry, there are carnival classics to hit the spot, such as dagwood dogs, chip-on-a-stick, licorice, fairy floss or hotdogs.
"Over the Christmas period there were really good crowds and lots of families coming to the carnival," Mr Bell said.
"We've always enjoyed coming to Batemans Bay. We spend more time here than anywhere else during the year."
Mr Bell said the carnival was closed on some nights due to bad weather, but otherwise has been a great success.
"We come to the carnival every year while on holidays from Canberra and it is just the best time," one visitor said. "It is always the holiday highlight."
"My favourite ride is the Matterhorn because you spin so fast and it feels like I'm flying," one enthusiastic rider said.
The most popular ride was the new drifting dodgem cars, with many riders cycling between riding in the dodgems and waiting in line to have another go.
Mr Bell shared his appreciation for the council, the chamber of commerce and the event sponsors, who all make running the carnival possible.
The carnival opened at Caseys Beach on Boxing Day and is open 7pm to 10pm every night until January 26.
