NSW Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Marianne Gale thanked residents for their vaccination efforts as the state recorded 88.6 per cent of people over the age of 16 who have received a single dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 66.7 per cent of people now fully vaccinated.

"Thank you for everyone for their ongoing terrific effort to get vaccinated," she said.

"It's pleasing to see such high vaccination coverage across the state.

"I want to say a big thank you to everybody for staying the course in these challenging months.

"From NSW Health we are pleased to see our case numbers stabilising and going down. We are pleased to see our vaccination rates increase to the levels that they have.

"I know the community is keen to get back to the things that we love, but it is really important that when we open up, we act cautiously and that we continue to follow the revised health advice."

Dr Gale said it was important for residents across the state to come forward for vaccination and to get tested and the onset of even the mildest symptoms.

"All of this is important to make sure the gains we have made in these difficult months are retained into the future," she said.

Zero new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the Wingecarribee local government area.

The total number of cases in the Wingecarribee LGA is 63 since the current outbreak began in June.

Southern NSW Local Health District (SNSWLHD) recorded 12 new COVID-19 cases.

Four new cases were recorded in the Queanbeyan-Palerang region and all are linked to known cases.

One new case was recorded in Goulburn and it is linked to a known case.

The remaining cases in SNSWLHD were recorded in the Snowy Monaro region.

This brings the total cases in SNSWLHD to 302 since the start of the current outbreak in June.

The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District recorded 51 new cases of COVID-19.

Of that, four new cases were recorded in the Shoalhaven LGA. One is linked to a known case. One case was recorded in the 2535 postcode, one in the 2540 postcode and two in the 2541 postcode.

There have now been 1843 local cases of COVID-19 in the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District since the start of the current outbreak in June.

Across NSW, 594 cases of COVID-19 were recorded, and more than 90,00 people were tested for the virus in the 24 hours up to October 5, 8 pm.

Residents should be alert for any symptoms that could signal COVID-19 including headache, nausea, sore throat, runny nose, cough, loss of smell or taste, or fever.

If symptoms appear, people must isolate and get tested immediately, and remain isolated until a negative result is received.
