The bureau has issued a warning for damaging winds, averaging 60 to 70km/h with peak gusts in excess of 90km/h throughout Wednesday until the evening.

" A low pressure system east of Tasmania early Wednesday morning has a tight pressure gradient to the north that will produce strong winds through the Illawarra and eastern parts of the Central Tablelands on Wednesday," the Bureau stated.

A Gale Warning has been issued for the following areas: Illawarra Coast, Batemans Coast and Eden Coast Strong winds are expected to continue through Thursday.

Locations which may be affected include Nowra, Wollongong, Bowral, Katoomba, Huskisson and Bilpin.

In terms of temperature, Nowra is expected to see a top of 14 degrees on Wednesday, and a top of 18 for Batemans Bay.

In preparation for the windy Wednesday the State Emergency Service advises that people should move vehicles under cover or away from tree and secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.

In the event the winds knock down power lines, people should keep at least eight metres away.
