Spokesperson for The Players, Jen Aspinall said one of our very special volunteers is Heather Powell, a life member of the Bay Theatre Players, who is lending her skills once again to the creative task of scenic artwork and painting for The Addams Family production.
"Heather Powell joined The Players after moving to Batemans Bay in 1989, when the theatre was a small wooden hall at Observation Point in Batehaven.
"She was involved for a jam-packed eight-years with the Players before returning after a brief move to Canberra for 10 years.
"In her first eight years, Heather was pivotal in the official introduction of children and youth into The Bay Theatre Players fold, and also wrote and produced two shows for Youth Theatre, called Forest Fantasy and Rainbows are Real.
"Now Heather is penning her story of Bay Theatre Players over the years," Ms Aspinall said.
Heather was born in Ireland and was involved in theatre from a young age, both on stage and with design and painting scenery.
Her career has involved working in social welfare, teaching art and drama and various carer roles.
"Writing is an important part of Heathers life; she has written of her experiences in a bush army healing centre, a non-fiction book, Tsanga, Place of Healing and she was also inspired to write another book, Uncertain Genes, after meeting Patch Adams in Scotland.
"The book encourages people to lighten up on life if possible."
Heather says of the Addams Family production, "It will be fun to splash a bit of paint around again, but just a small bit".
"The Bay Theatre Players are thrilled to have Heather Powell as one of their most valued volunteers and members," Ms Aspinall said.
