A man has died following a suspected shark attack on at Tuncurry on the NSW Mid North Coast this morning (Tuesday, May 18).

At about 11.20am, emergency services were called to Tuncurry Beach and found a man suffering critical injuries to his upper right thigh after being attacked while surfing.
The man, believed to be in his 50s, was pulled from the water and officers from Manning Great Lakes Police District commenced CPR; however, he died at the scene.
Tuncurry Beach and Forster Main Beach are currently closed.
Police will be working with the Department of Primary Industries to identify the species responsible.

A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said they received a call just before 11.15am Tuesday, May 18.
The spokesperson said it appears the man was bitten on the leg.
Four ambulance crews provided support.
