The weather was kind with the clouds parting and no rain on a mild afternoon, which was perfect for racing.
There was the usual strong attendance of young people at the meeting as the Christmas Cup has become an annual meeting point for those who have returned home for Christmas.
The club was also pleased to see a number of group bookings, a lot of which were holding their work Christmas party.
The fields were near capacity and the level of racing throughout the day was strong.
The majority of winners were from away stables however, local trainer Greg Backhouse managed to win two races.
The first was Intuitive in the Class 1 Handicap ridden by Winona Costin and owned by a group of very happy locals.
The last race on the day was the Christmas Cup which was fought out by two local horses. The Natalie Jarvis trained Hay Bale led and looked like it would hold on however, the local favourite Whisky'n'diamonds burst out of the pack to grab the victory.
This was Greg backhouses' second winner of the day and with plenty of local racegoers having had a bet on him there was plenty of joy among the crowd.
Whisky'n'diamonds will now be one of the favourites for the upcoming Moruya Cup which will be held on Monday, January 4.
The club is hoping the current COVID outbreak in Sydney will not have any further effect on the Moruya Cup meeting and is planning for a near capacity crowd. Tickets for the meeting are on sale through NSW Tickets. The club will also hold a race meeting golf day and the Cup Calcutta at the Moruya Golf Club on Sunday, January 3.
