SOCCER
All Age Ladies - Narooma FC (8) def Batemans Bay FC (0)
On a chilly Wednesday evening in Moruya, the Narooma FC women's team took to the field against a muchly improved Batemans Bay outfit. The Batemans Bay side started the game with composure and enthusiasm and for the early stages of the match it looked like the game would be closely contested. Batemans Bay held possession and pushed forward in attack and were denied by some brilliant defense from Ripley Simpson and Nakia Moreton-Stewart.
The speed of Sarah Dudley was the key to Narooma's opening goal. A fantastic counter-attack was finished off by the flying striker. Dudley went on to score the second goal of the evening for the Narooma side after some fantastic teamwork and a pinpoint assist through the midfield from Peta Cottington.
Narooma welcomed back Circe Adams this week and the wing combination of Tara Guseli and Adams seemed to be everywhere on the field. They were vital for Narooma in attack and could be relied upon to get back in defense when needed most. Going into half-time, the score-line accurately reflected the close contest on display.
After the break the Narooma team seemed to find a second gear. In her best game of the season, Dudley continued to find opportunities and managed to finish the match with 3 goals. Shayla Moreton-Stewart played with youth and determination to bring her total for the game to 4 goals, thus cementing her name firmly at the top as leading goal scorer for 2020. Cottington also found the back of the net and by the end of the game, the scoreline had blown out to 8-0.
It was another convincing performance for the Narooma FC ladies. The vital mix of youth and experience is paying dividends and the women are proving themselves as the team to beat this year.
