The crew is connected through social media and share their isolation activities with each other. Their pursuits are many and varied, from learning the drums and painting, to science experiments and creative play in the backyard or on the beach.
Most kids have become adept at online learning and the arts community has provided an enormous amount of content, from workshops to live broadcasts to all sorts of shows streaming for everyone's enjoyment. The kids take advantage of what's on offer, as well as getting on with their online learning. If you need inspiration, or great theatre or shows to watch, head to www.stagewhispers.com.au; a great directory for productions online.
Youth Theatre coordinator Lyn Sterling said: "Thank you to all our families who have stayed connected through social media and for sharing your children's fun activities during their isolation. We look forward to reconnecting with you as soon as possible"
Update on 2020 season
The Bay Theatre Players 2020 season was to include two major productions, The Game's Afoot and The Drowsy Chaperone, and a Youth Theatre Showcase. The current environment has been a major disruption and, after lots of reflection, The Game's Afoot director, Roy Smith, has decided to postpone this production until the 2021 Season. "This production has lots of technical elements that a condensed time frame cannot support," he said. "Hopefully the COVID-19 situation will be over, and we can have a normal rehearsal environment."
Both The Drowsy Chaperone and the Youth Theatre Showcase are scheduled for the final months of 2020, and the teams are moving forward with getting these productions onto the stage.
We will be looking for some sewing helpers very soon for the many and elaborate costumes required for The Drowsy Chaperone. We are also looking for a pair of old-fashioned roller skates to be used in the production.
