In term 4 of last year, I was getting used to the new freedoms and stresses of being a year 12 student and had adjusted well enough - until my holiday break was interrupted by the bushfires which nearly claimed my home and severely affected the lives of my friends and family for just over a month.
We missed the first week of school as we tried to recover and parts of the school were rebuilt.
Life returned to normal for a few weeks.
I was ready to seriously work towards my goal of attending university when the COVID-19 regulations again disrupted my schooling and we were forced to adapt to a new way of learning.
Online school is okay, if a bit tedious, for those students who have a clear goal and the motivation to take their schooling into their own hands.
However it's easy to lose focus when there are so many distractions at home!
I will be going to school next term to have access to internet but most of the student body will be making use of their new online timetables from home.
It really feels like I'm not in the "real world" anymore, as it's been close to five months of unprecedented disasters and isolation.
I'm enjoying the way I can study my own way and at a time that suits me best, but, as we have poor internet here, it's caused some big issues with assignments already, as it did during the bushfires.
Since it's school holidays I can't use the school internet, and the library is a non-essential risk.
I'm really disappointed that I have experienced all these barriers in year 12, but there's nothing I can do but continue to study for my exams and hope that everything will be okay.
Perhaps one of few positives which has come out of social distancing is I now go for two-hour walks everyday, instead of watching Netflix at home!
