All the Sippers had a wonderful fun filled morning with great music and bowling.
The winners were lucky losers Anna Stewart, Heather Hart (a visitor) and Charlie Bird. There were no fines handed out today but instead a collection was taken up for charity.
Huge thanks go to the efforts of our local staff that have been without employment, all the bowls volunteers and our bowls organisers for all the hours of manual labour that went into making this happen.
A special thanks also goes to Cabramatta Bowling Club who undertook this mammoth task to give us an operational Marquee 7 weeks after the fires.
If your interested in having lots of fun, friendship and laughter as well as some good bowling, come and join us at our new Club Malua Marquee every Sunday. Names in between 8am and 8.45am - you will find a sheet on the notice board towards the back of the Marquee. Cards are called at 9.30. A light lunch is provided.
Visitors please leave a contact number. No Previous experience required.
Tuross Head women
You might have thought that the "Tuross Bunnies" were mixed up about the date for Easter in 2020, but not so. They played in the new Women's Bowls NSW competition called "The Summer League." It was introduced in 2019 to encourage good competition for players, especially working women who can only play in "out of hours" eg evenings or the weekend. However several teams from the Far South Coast District who play regularly and just love their bowls, entered this competition which ran from October to December. Teams from Malua Bay, Bermagui, Tomakin and two Tuross sides battled it out to make it to the finals.
The "Tuross Bunnies" namely Irene Macdonald, Doreen Monks and Fran O'Connell were victorious and will now play off at Blacktown Workers Club on Saturday, February 29, and Sunday, March 1. The team makeup could only have one Grade 1 or Grade 2 player, in this case, Irene and two other players of varying ability in order to give a fairer chance to newer players to compete in this initiative.
The game is a two bowls triples format, played over 15 ends, which should be a fast and very exciting game.
We wish our ladies much success playing at the State level against teams from all around the State. So hop to it Bunnies and fill your baskets with the trophies, but more importantly have fun!
Tuross Head men
The 2020 Pennant season has started with a historic twist to the competition. The competition is now 'open' meaning that all eligible men and women can play in the competition. To be eligible a person needs to be registered with Bowls NSW. Many of the clubs in our competition district have had women register so they can play with the men.
Tuross has two sides entered in the competition - a Grade 5 side and a Grade 6 side. The Grade 6 side is a promotion from recent seasons after winning Grade 7 last year. In Round One the Grade 5 side was at home to Moruya and the Grade 6 side travelled to Dalmeny.
The Grade 5 clash turned out to be a real nail biter! Very little separated the two sides throughout until Tuross pulled ahead to lead by 11 shots on the 'master board' with just a combined 9 ends to play. However, Moruya dominated these ends and picked up 15 shots to the host's 4 to see the match end up a tie at 56 shots each. Tuross won two of the three rinks to have a narrow 5.5 to 4.5 overall win. For Tuross Joel Hilliard won 19 - 14; Noel Downie won 22 - 17 and Gail Page went down 15 - 25.
In the Grade 6 match Dalmeny started the better and quickly opened up a big lead on the master board. However, the Tuross teams gradually made their way into the game and the scores were 39 all after a combined 48 ends. At this stage Dalmeny regrouped and they were able to pull away to record a 52 to 43 shot victory. Tuross managed to win one rink meaning that the final result was a 9 points to 1 win to the home side. For Tuross Ray Downey's team managed a 18 - 12 win while Doug Williams' team lost 15 - 18 and Stan Peck's foursome went down 22 - 10. Next week the Grade 5 side travels to Malua Bay while the Grade 6 side will host Braidwood.

There were 45 bowlers on the green on another lovely warm sunny morning bowling along to some great music. President Steven Hogan welcomed everyone, reminding us that we will have a Barbecue breakfast on 8th March also on 29th March the annual Triathlon will be on so allow more time to get to bowls as some roads will be closed.
The Award this week went to Jeanne "Babe" Burggraff who when bowling last week let her bowl go onto next rink but says it was not a wrong bias!! The Draw card was selected but as there were no drawn games the next card was for Highest Losing Margin.
Winners , Bob Starkovski and John Booth. Runners-up, Tricia Wheeler, Barry and Daphne Stone sharing a half game each. Boothy selected Rink 13 to try for Jackpot. Jennie Hogan cut the cards but could only come up with 10 of hearts for a chance to win $428.
