According to data measured over previous years the Roads and Maritime Services advises southbound traffic at Nowra should allow up to 30 minutes on December 23 and 24, and northbound traffic at Ulladulla should allow at least 15 minutes.
The Batemans Bay Bridge will not be opened for boats due to continuous road access required on the Princes Highway for emergency vehicles responding to bushfires.
Transport for NSW Executive Director Southern Sam Knight said the decision to cease the opening of the bridge was made in conjunction with emergency services, maritime and stakeholders as the risk from fire reduces.
She said priority was with safety.
"While we appreciate the inconvenience to boaters, the number one priority remains safety and we are working very closely with the Rural Fire Service and NSW Police in assisting their current efforts," Ms Knight said.
Further north, traffic signals and a reduced speed limit of 60km will be in place at the Jervis Bay Road and Princes Highway intersection over Christmas. The traffic plan for the intersection is in place from now until January 27.
Motorists are being urged to stay alert to changing traffic conditions while on the road this festive season as bushfires continue to burn across the state.
Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said it was important motorists put the safety of themselves and their passengers first.
"We know a lot of people will be on the roads over the festive season and it's critical they stay alert to changes in bushfire conditions and potential road closures," Mr Toole said.
"By checking the Live Traffic NSW and the Fires Near Me NSW apps motorists can easily see what roads are being impacted by bushfires before they set off."
Mr Toole said the Live Traffic NSW app showed what routes fires were affecting, as well as where roadworks were, where incidents had occurred and any future delays that may be caused by major events.
"Motorists should also keep in mind that conditions can change quickly and roads can close with little notice, especially in bushfire-affected areas. This means it's a good idea to keep checking the app when you take a rest break not just before you head off and always follow the direction of authorities."
