Exams began on Thursday, October 17, and continue until mid-November.
Here is what three Batemans Bay High School students had to say after their first exam:
Christina Edwards
"I think I did OK, I did the best I could. For the first exam I wanted to at least stay the whole time but the second one I might not.
"I want to be an interior designer. There's a design school in Brisbane and Sydney."
She worked part-time, even during her HSC. She wanted to quit, "but my mum wouldn't let me".
Her thoughts towards study: "Studying is important, but not that important. You still need a life."
The benefits of working through year 12? "I might go on holidays afterwards, I've got enough money for it".
I went in there and did what I could. I wrote and I just didn't stop.

"I didn't study that much but I went in there and did what I could. I wrote and I just didn't stop. I don't think I did too bad."
She said exams weren't really important to her: "I don't intend on going to uni so I'm not really worried about the ATAR, and a lot of people said it doesn't really matter in the end."
She didn't know what job she wanted after school, but knew she wanted to move to Canberra with friends.
Her advice: "Don't stress, but probably study, because I didn't".
She worked at McDonald's and said study and work were "both as important as each other".
Siobhan Allen
"It was my first exam so far and it was probably bad. I am a little bit (worried about exams) but at the same time not, because for the topic and course I want to do, I can go through TAFE.
"I want to be a vet, so I kind of need high marks but there's another way.
"I have to be honest, I didn't study much today so I kind of went in blind, but I know what I did wrong and I'm definitely going to study."
She was looking forward to a post-HSC camping trip with friends.
