Minister for Youth and Sport, Richard Colbeck, said the success of Australia's national side was reflected in increased community participation, something the Australian Government would continue to support.
"The Australian Government, along with our lead sport agency Sport Australia, has provided a $500,000 Move It Aus - Participation Grant to Netball Australia to expand its national NetSetGO program," Minister Colbeck said.
"NetSetGO is Netball Australia's starter program for girls and boys aged five to 10. It gives kids the chance to learn the netball basics, get outside and make some friends at a pace that's right for them.
"The program already has fantastic reach, with 80,000 participants and 4100 NetSetGO programs being delivered across every state and territory.
"This Move It Aus - Participation Grant will give this program even greater reach, into regional areas and also across digital platforms to help develop physical literacy and coaching.
"NetSetGO is also linked with our national Sporting Schools program, which continues delivering fun and free sporting opportunities to children and has funded some 7300 schools around Australia.
"As Minister for Youth and Sport as well as Minister for Aged Care and Senior Australians, it's important to see sports like netball delivering positive experiences for Australians of all ages. Life is better with sport and we look forward to sharing the wonderful stories of these programs as they are delivered throughout the year."
