The Boars went up the mountain with back-to-back wins under their belt, but struggled to contain an enthusiastic Braidwood side.
Coach Matt Ryan said his side were guilty of being overconfident.
"I'm not disappointed in the performance, but definitely disappointed in the process and outcome," he said. "We had high hopes going up there, and we felt momentum was starting to swing our way for the season.
"We were out-enthused, and we faced a completely different side to what we faced a couple of weeks ago.
"We spoke all week about respecting them, and putting previous results behind us, but I think there was a slight element of overconfidence that didn't help us.
"Now we have to reassess a few things in order to press forward again."
Ryan said his side went away from what had been working for them over the past couple of weeks.
"We've done well with building momentum through the centre this year, and we were probably a bit too sideways and too keen to get the ball out to the wingers," he said. "We've spoken a lot about if our defence was right, we'd be right, but games like this are evidence that we need to still work on our attack."
The game was broadcast live on Braidwood's local radio station, the first time that has happened in the South Coast-Monaro competition.
"They had a really healthy crowd up there, and they were all very vocal and enthusiastic," Ryan said. "It's something the community really gets around, which is great for them, but it's a daunting task for anyone traveling there.
"The radio brought another element to the match. I know a few people who listened, and it's something that can only bring excitement to these local derbies."
The Boars have now dropped to fourth on the ladder, and face third-placed Crookwell at home this weekend.
"It's still too early to call this a must-win game, but it's a very important game for our season," Ryan said. "We put ourselves in a position where we could have avoided a dog-fight for fourth position, but this loss puts us back in it.
"Nothing changes right now, but if we're still in a dogfight in a month or two, it might have an effect on how we train and progress."
