Kevington VIC
In the 1800s gold rush people came from around the world, folk navigating rivers as easily as we do highways today. And they spread into the country along those waterways, to places such as Kevington near Jamieson, one of the strategic places along the Goulburn River tributaries that flow into Lake Eildon today.
The owner of this magnificent 26 acres (10 hectares), sees signs of the early gold diggers having been on his property every now and again. He smiles wryly as he wanders along to his oak plantation, contemplating the commercial qualities of the truffles at their base. Improving on the foresight of the previous owner, the grape vines and infrastructure have all been upgraded and revitalised, they are humming along nicely he says.
There’s more than a kilometre frontage to the Goulburn River, with water rights and a 3-phase pump from the river, and the automated sprinkler system keeps the garden looking a treat, while the couple of acres under vines produce enough red wine, a fine drop of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Designed by an unusual city architect as his country home, it has been very well built. The open-plan layout has high ceilings, double-glazed windows throughout, formal, informal and alfresco living areas, plus four bedrooms, study, plus a reading room.
5171 Mansfield-Woods Point Road, Kevington is for sale for $1,250,000 through Clark & Co.
