Batemans Marine Park concerns
I read with disbelief "Fishers welcome news on no-take zones" (Narooma News, March 20).

No-take zones take up only 20 per cent of the Batemans Marine Park. These sanctuary zones were designated through a long process in 2006 with input from a variety of stakeholders and the general public.
The park was established in relation to the Marine Estate Management Act. Marine parks aid in protection of the whole ecosystem, not just the fish.
Oceans around the world are being confronted by a variety of detrimental activities and it is up to us to to use everything within our grasp to protect our marine ecosystems. No-take zones are part of sustainable management. Many fishers welcome no-take zones; they understand they go a long way to improving the health of the ecosystem, which must be good for fish.

More cut and thrust
I would like to comment on Stuart Cameron's "Cutting letter from Cuttagee" (Bay Post/Moruya Examiner, March 15).
I'm not a great fan of any major political party at the moment, but Mr Cameron it's about time you looked out the window of fantasy land and give credit where credit is due.
Regardless of where funding started, Andrew Constance is getting things done, with new bridges in Nelligen and Batemans Bay, massive highway upgrades at Victoria Creek and Dighnams Creek, and there are a number of other projects he has overseen.
You will see Mr Constance at the busking festival, the Eurobodalla District Show and numerous other community events on a regular basis, as he obviously enjoys being part of our community.
Maybe look back at the mess left by Daley when he was minister for finance, with massive debt and deficit? Now he wants to run the show and is promising the world at election time
You all keep going on about stadiums. On the advice of experts the stadium is deemed dangerous to the public. Do you want another Hillsborough? Don't forget the massive revenues actually come out of Sydney to fund it. For what we got from years of Labor to what Andrew Constance has achieved, we are not doing too bad.
Open your eyes, people.

Spotlight on gun control
The tragic events of last week in New Zealand have once again shone a spotlight on the need to have, and maintain, appropriate gun laws.
The annual sale of guns in Narooma, as part of the Huntfest event, is a matter of serious concern to many residents of Eurobodalla Shire. The group SAFE (Stop Arms Fairs in Eurobodalla) sent candidates in the Bega electorate for the NSW election a short list of questions to elicit their views on the sale of guns on public land, and related matters. Three candidates have responded, and their answers can be found on the Facebook page facebook.com/SAFEfarsouthcoast .
Disappointingly, Bega MP Andrew Constance has failed to respond. We can only assume Mr Constance (and, by extension, the government in which he serves as a minister), both approves of the sale of guns on public land, and endorses the free entry of children to this location.
A reported 90,000 guns have been registered in Australia in the last two years. The last thing we need here in Eurobodalla is to be selling more of them. Where do you stand on this, Mr Constance?

What happened to Country Labor posters?
Driving around the Eurobodalla over the past few weeks, we noticed election posters for both major party candidates at a number of locations along the Princes Highway, as well as other main roads. Suddenly, nearly all the Country Labor posters have disappeared.
Are the Liberals playing dirty? Their posters are screwed or nailed high up on large roadside trees. Country Labor posters were mounted more sensitively and less-destructively on wooden stakes.
It must have been easy for the operatives who did the rounds on Tuesday evening to remove them.
The reactionary election material we are receiving from the NSW Liberals, accusing Labor of lying and their leader of being corrupt instead of focusing on their policies, implies a party desperately attempting to cling to power at any cost. They don't represent us or our values.
