The bream have turned up this week on the flats towards the front of the system with some fish coming around that magic one-kilogram mark. Early morning has been the more productive time to hunt these big yellow fin bream.
Whiting have still been spread throughout the system, but it seems the larger fish have been coming off the flats around the bridge in town using a variety of top water lures and the ever reliable sand worm.
A welcome catch this week has been perch in the river towards the backend of the system around Mogendoura Creek, and top water has been the choice of most anglers.
The break wall has been productive on the turn of the tide for a mixed bag of flathead, bream, whiting, and salmon.
If it’s a nice feed of crabs you’re after, you will not be disappointed, with a lot of blue swimmers and muddies being pulled in.
Tuross
Big flathead are still on the bite in Tuross, with a few fish over 90 centimetres being reported this week. The four-ways has been the place to be for these big girls, with live poddy mullet being the bait of choice.
As always, please remember these big flathead are female and are the breeders in the system, so handle them with care, get a few pic,s and release these fish to keep our water ways healthy and sustainable for years to come.
Whiting seem to have moved towards the mid-system flats around the four ways and Coopers Island.
Jewfish have been active this week again in Tuross, with the better fish coming from the deep holes around the boat shed.
Beaches
The beaches have been producing great numbers of whiting and bream mixed with the odd salmon.
It seems the fish have been out in the wider gutters this week, so try getting your baits out further.
Salmon have been patchy, so I would suggest putting on an Arma metal lure and move up and down the beaches seeking them, rather then waiting for them to come to you.
Good numbers of squid are still being caught off most headlands with pink jigs seem to be working the best.
For the divers, plenty of lobsters are being caught around Pedro Point.
Offshore
Snapper, morwong, and kingfish have been the target, with good numbers of morwong and snapper being caught. Most of the fish this week have come out of 35-42 metres of water, with squid and pilchers the baits of choice.
The kingfish were in big numbers earlier in the week out off South Head with one person reporting multiple fish around the 10-kilogram and 13-kilogram marks.
Out wider has been quiet this week, however I did hear of a marlin being caught down south off Bermagui.
