Extensive power outages left the Eurobodalla Shire in the dark on Sunday morning, with more than 16,000 homes and businesses affected.

The blackout affected the entire Eurobodalla Shire, as it spread from Batemans Bay in the north through to Tilba Tilba in the south.
Essential Energy’s South Easter Operations Manager, Darren Basterfield, said the unplanned power outage was caused by a fault in the zone substation.
“Network protection equipment activated at about 4.30am to isolate supply to the area,” he said. “Attending crews secured the safety of the site, re-routed power around the network, and began to back-feed to progressive restore supply to the majority of customers by 6.10am.
“Supply was restored to all customers by 6.35am.”
