The Moruya teen was one of four chosen by national selectors to represent Australia in the annual competition, which took place in Gisborne from January 25 to January 27.
Lucy said the experience was “thrilling”.
“It was nice to go over as a team as well – you feel a bit of pride in yourself that you’ve been selected to represent your country,” she said.

Although the Australian team came second, Lucy said they had such a good time that they didn’t mind.
“Everyone was really hospitable and lovely,” she said.
“Each night they had dinners on, and the New Zealand team were lovely people to hang out with.”
She said competing in a borrowed-horse event brought its own challenges.
“Not all of the horses were amazing, but at the end of the day you can’t blame the horse,” she said.
“It’s how you adjust to how the horse needs to be ridden so it can perform its best for you.”
