Seconds and 3rd Grades had solid wins, 4th Grade won on a forfeit and, not to be outdone, the U/11s and 12s both had good wins.
Batemans Bay 2nd Grade v. Bomaderry
Chasing their first win of the season, Batemans Bay 2nd Grade won the toss and elected to bat first. Despite the loss of an early wicket, Anthony Mortimer (39) ensured the run-rate remained healthy. The opener boasted a strike-rate of close to 200 before holing out on the boundary.
A third wicket partnership of 103 between promising youngster, Ryan Hall (29) and top scorer, Zac Henstock (72) ensured the Bay reached 7 for 209 after the allotted 40 overs.
Having such an imposing total to defend saw pressure mount on Bomaderry from the opening overs. Darcy Knight (2 for 8) and Praveen Varghese (4 for 24) had effectively put the result beyond doubt early in the piece, reducing the visitors to 4 for 19 in the ninth over.
Bomaderry were never in the hunt, falling for 68.
No fewer than seven Bomaderry batsmen had their stumps broken, in what captain Stephen Knight described as “a seam bowling masterclass”. Josh Lee continues to impress in the short form, snaring 2 for 7 off six overs, while the wily veteran, Tom Purcell again chipped in with 2 for 6 to seal the result inside 31 overs.
Bomaderry were never in the hunt, falling for 68. With a string of home games in front of them, Batemans Bay 2nd Grade are keen to build upon their inaugural win for the season.
Batemans Bay 3rd grade vs Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemans
Third grade continued their unbeaten streak this season by defeating an understrength Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemans by a mammoth 151 runs at Hanging Rock on Saturday and remain top of the table after four rounds.
Stand-in skipper Andrew “Snowy” Malcolm won the toss and batted first, with the team posting its season high score of 9/190 off the maximum 40 overs. The opening pair of Jamie Prior and James Cashin led the way putting 55 runs on the board after just 10 overs. The introduction of slow bowling by Ex-Servos changed the game immediately, with the Bay losing 3 quick wickets. Skipper Andrew Malcolm then joined Prior at the crease and they put together a much needed steadying partnership, before Prior fell for 29 with score at 4/90. A string of solid partnerships followed, with contributions by Sean Griffin, James Dickinson, Dave West and Matt Klarica all supporting Malcolm, who top-scored with 47.
With the ball, it was all Batemans Bay, with wickets shared amongst all six bowlers and the Ex-Servo’s innings soon finished after 23 overs with a score of only 39 and only one batsman reaching double figures.
Skipper Malcolm shone again, with his allround skills being the pick of the bowlers, taking 3/10 off 5 overs, edging out son Lachie’s 2/9, also off 5 overs. Mark Templeman 2, Matt Klarica and James and Bruce Dickinson, with 1 each, also contributed.
The bowlers were backed up by some excellent fielding with two outfield catches by Sean Griffin and sharp catches by Dave West in the gully and wicket-keeper Prior.
Batemans Bay remain on top of the ladder with this dominant display and now play Nowra CC at Hanging Rock next Saturday.
