Branch spokesperson Sandy Collins said two snakes had becomes caught in garden netting recently, and had to be rescued, relocated and released.

Mrs Collins said one of the snakes was trapped for days after some netting it was tangled in became snagged on a pole.

She said the snake suffered superficial scale injuries in the incident.

“Netting doesn’t only affect snakes, but birds, bats and possums,” Mrs Collins said.

“If you are going to have netting in your backyard, pull it tight and fix it securely so there are no loose ends.

“The theory of this is that animals will just bounce off the netting and not get tangled on it.”
