The event was the brainchild of Cathi Young and Lesley English, of Moruya Community Preschool.
“We’ve had exhibitions in the past but not for a long time – and they were just hanging up around the room (at the preschool),” Mrs Young said.
“But since going to exhibitions at the Mechanic’s Institute, where everything is so beautifully displayed, we wanted to display the beautiful children’s artworks somewhere there was no distractions and people could just enjoy them.”
Local artists, parents, children and staff worked together to create their own show at the Mechanic’s Institute.
“One of the parents who is into decoupage came in and worked with the children, Raewyn (Lawrence) is a local painter and we asked her to be involved, and we also asked John Payne, who is a local potter and ceramicist,” Mrs Young said.
“Each day of the week the children made a major work to auction, and an individual work that related to the major work.”
The results spoke for themselves.
“On the Saturday when we opened it up for the children to come in with their families, the delight on their faces to see their artworks on display was fantastic,” Mrs English said.
“They’ve brought aunties, uncles and grandparents and they were buzzing around the hall, looking for stuff they had produced.
“The excitement for the kids was really lovely – and I think the parents really appreciated having an adults only event on Friday.”
All funds raised from the event go towards creating an outdoor classroom space for the preschool. If you would like to donate, or get involved, contact the preschool directly.
“Call, or drop in – we’d love the council to get on board with one of their big gas bbqs,” Mrs English said.
