Refugee Week will come to life in the Eurobodalla Shire with poetry, art, short film, stories and a sale.
The week culminates in a Sri Lankan Tamil Food Feast.
The Same Moon exhibition presents works by people who have a lived experience of being a refugee. The exhibition includes works by local artists to mark this year's theme: “With Refugees.”
The artworks will be on display at Moruya, Narooma and Bateman’s Bay Libraries, as well as Moruya Books and Nourish on North.
A creative collaboration between the libraries and the Refugee Action Collective Eurobodalla, the shire-wide exhibition also invites members of the community to come together on Thursday, June 21 for an evening of short film, storytelling and poetry at 5pm at Batemans Bay Library.
Committee convenor Bernie Richards said it was a good chance to mark “the importance and significance of Refugee Week”.
“We warmly invite community to experience these compelling artworks, to sample poetry, short film, and storytelling and to enjoy some wine and cheese and conversation,” she said.
“We will join on the winter solstice - as light grows from darkness - to mark the universal truth that we share the same moon, and to mark the contribution and experiences of refugees.”
Writer and poet Navven Ravi will read a number of his works, and Bega Valley’s award winning international storyteller, Evita Hofstetter will perform at the event. A short film will be shown.
On Saturday morning there will be a funky fundraising sale in the Art Central Gardens.
To conclude Refugee Week, locals will also be treated to a luscious Sri Lankan Tamil food feast and fundraiser. This will be cooked and compered by Melbourne’s Navven Ravi on Saturday 23 June, with his acclaimed Food For Thought event. Tickets are $25, strictly limited and selling fast at Moruya Books and Go Vita, Bateman’s Bay.
