The Moruya Business Chamber meeting, Moruya Golf Club Thursday, May 17, at 6pm, will be discussing the campaign to rid Moruya by June 30 of the single-use plastic bag.
There is a strong and growing trend for responsible consumerism in Australia and it is looking to business to take the lead, a stop on the supply of single use plastic bags is a start.
Moruya is a river town, within a short distance to the coast, we need to preserve our pristine environment and minimise the detrimental effects of plastic on our birds and marine animals.
It makes good sense for businesses to preserve the environment that attracts so many of our customers.
Tomorrow nights meeting will discuss the campaign which has three focuses:
- for Moruya businesses to stop supplying single use plastic bags to customers
- to encourage customers/consumers to bring their own bags
- for businesses to a put a dollar price on heavy duty multi-use plastic bag.
The campaign process will engage, inform and assist Moruya businesses throughout the campaign.
The Moruya Business Chamber will be working with Eurobodalla Shire Council and local environment groups to inform businesses and consumers about the stop in supply of single use plastic bags, alternatives to the single use plastic bag and TO encourage customers to alter their shopping habit of expecting the retailer to supply a bag when shopping.
We welcome all interested parties to the Moruya Business Chamber meeting tomorrow night.
Jude Manahan
