Korners Park in Batemans Bay is the perfect place for outdoor fun after a major makeover by Eurobodalla Council earlier this year, and now it has another purpose.

Batemans Bay Rotary has worked with council and local disability advocate Brad Rossiter to install a reflection area; a place where people can rest on a timber bench and quietly enjoy the view across the water.
Rotary representatives Vere Gray and David Ashford were on hand with Mr Rossiter, council’s Warren Sharpe and Mayor Lindsay Brown last week to launch the reflection area.
Ms Gray explained that Rotary donated $10,000 to the reflection area to make Mr Rossiter’s idea a reality. “Council have been great and were happy to work in with us on the design,” she said.
“The park looks beautiful now it’s been upgraded and it’s wonderful to see the reflection area all finished and being used by locals and visitors. Our members helped with the planting in the reflection area and we were proud to be part of the project.”
Mr Rossiter is similarly pleased.
“We live in a beautiful part of the world and having a place to quietly reflect on our lives in this lovely park is just great,” he said.
“You can sit here looking over the water, and contemplate how good life is, not how bad it is.”
The park is located on the north side of Batemans Bay bridge and Council invested over $340,000 to revamp the gateway to the town. The work was completed earlier this year and a pathway under the bridge now connects Korners Park to the recently refurbished Punt Road Reserve and its new facilities, which include an upgraded boatramp and carpark.
Council spent $289,000 on this work, partly funded with grants of $158,000 from the NSW Boating Now program. NSW Roads and Maritime also contributed $41,000 to the Korners Park project. New stairs from Korners Park to the bridge allow pedestrian access to the CBD.
Council’s infrastructure director Warren Sharpe said the contemplation space fits in well with the rest of the park upgrade.
“I'm really proud of the work our team does and this is another example of a great community park we've created for everyone to enjoy,” he said.
“Incorporating Brad's vision for a spot to contemplate how lucky we are to live where we do, then working with such positive people at Batemans Bay Rotary Club to help bring this element of the park to a reality has been rewarding for all of us.”
