Samantha Joyce Perry, 27, appeared via Audio Visual Link from Silverwater Women’s Correctional Centre to hear Magistrate Doug Dick reject the application.
The prosecution opposed bail.
“She should remain in custody,” the prosecutor said.
“It is a very serious offence and carries 25 years’ jail. It is a very strong Crown case,” he said.
“There is CTV footage and the victim knows the accused. If convicted, the offender could be looking at a long jail term.
“There is an issue of her failing to appear in court with the prison sentence ahead of her.
“Bega is a small town and the victim and accused could run into each other. There could be further injury committed on the victim.”
Perry’s solicitor agreed that if his client was convicted, she would face a lengthy jail sentence.
“However, we are not at that point yet. It will be quite some time before the matter is finalised,” he said.
“She has no prior offences. I know it is a serious offence and that there is a strong case.”
Perry had plans to relocate to Nowra.
“If bail is granted, she would be staying with her uncle in West Nowra,” her solicitor said.
“There would be no need for her to come to Bega, unless for court. There is nothing to indicate she won’t turn up to court.
“There is no danger of interference with complainant or witnesses.”
Mr Dick made it clear his job was to apply the law.
"I have regard to your plans to move to the Nowra region.” he said.
“Against that, I have a very strong prosecution case. This is a serious, violent offence and can carry many, many years of imprisonment.
“I consider bail to be an unreasonable risk to the community. You will remain in custody.”
Dressed in prison greens, Perry began to cry after bail was rejected.
An AVO was also put in place for two years to protect the victim from Perry.
Mr Dick said Perry was not to go within 100 metres of the victim’s house or have any contact with her, unless it was through a solicitor until May 2018.
“If you breach it, it carries up to two years in jail,” he said.
Perry is charged with wounding with intent to murder and assault occasioning grievous bodily harm after she allegedly stabbed a 42-year-old woman in the neck outside Sapphire Marketplace’s Big W store on April 23.
It’s understood Perry and the woman, who was in a wheelchair at the time, were involved in an argument in an elevator prior to the alleged incident.
