Albert Ryan alarm
It was with great alarm that I read that Eurobodalla Council intends to sell another piece of our limited parkland in Batemans Bay.

A developer has offered to buy it to jamb multi-level unit blocks between the cliff face and Beach Road. The council seems to think its mission is to do deals with developers to destroy our amenity for financial benefit.
The report to the council has serious errors, in an attempt to justify this perversion of the council's role. It states “the land is currently under utilized with its primary use being the housing pf a public toilet”. Wrong. Many families eat lunch while enjoying the view, tourists pull off for a break while working out where to go in the area, due to a CBD parking shortage, and citizens enjoy the waterside green belt.
The report states “the toilet block is surplus to requirements”. It is used frequently. As one of the few places oversized camper vans, caravans and cars with boat trailers can park, many use this facility, with taxi and delivery drivers, pedestrians and cyclists. To say they can use the toilets beside the Boat Shed illustrates total ignorance of CBD traffic, especially in holidays.
It is said “the land would provide a significant financial return”. The council's role is to provide good roads, waste disposal services and maintain parks, public toilets, playgrounds, sports fields and libraries. It is not to steal our parks. Send your objections to the council and MPs.

What May be?
It is May. It is hot. Temperature records are being smashed.
The Turnbull government’s climate policy is woefully inadequate. Australia should be in the position to transition from the fossil fuel era into the renewable energy age, ensuring great employment outcomes.
Instead we are tinkering at the edges. The profound consequences of even a 2 degree rise in global temperatures are being felt. Let us not fool ourselves whilst we enjoy this endless summer that the future will look after itself. It is up to us to secure a safe future for ourselves and future generations.

A bridge too far?
The NSW Government’s, Roads and Maritime Services branch has developed a draft Princes Highway strategy that covers from Yallah to the Victorian Border, listing the priorities in coming years.
The list is worth reading for those interested in this significant artery. There doesn’t appear to have been any importance placed on the need to provide for larger road transports in the Eurobodalla or for another bridge over the Clyde River at Batemans Bay or over the Moruya River. There is a comment about maintenance of those two existing bridges.
Bypassing of towns in the Eurobodalla to make the highway traffic flow better doesn’t seem be of any importance either. It seems it will a long time before a new bridge is built over the Clyde. Tough.

Acute need
They might get some ohs and ahs due to their cuteness, but when bats start to impinge on our day-to-day living, they need to be gone.
We have had many power outages at night over the last two weeks due to these creatures coming into contact with power lines. The TV goes off and on, clocks need resetting and it can't be doing other electrical appliances any good.
Bats were relocated during the construction of the Baylink building. These mini Draculas carry the deadly Lyssavirus. The council must make a decision, not hold talk fests.
