MINOR PAIRS
On Saturday, the men’s minor pairs continued with two great games being played to see who would contest the final the following day.
After 21 ends the winners were B. Vickers/D. Cannon df K. Austin/K. Rootsey while M. Woodward/P. Cordy df M. O’Bryan/J. Muldrew.
After a spectacular lightning show that night and a torrential downpour it looked as though there would be no bowls for the day however the sun came out and over the course of the morning the greens drained out and were rolling well.
The favourites for this showdown were uncertain as one team consisted of two new bowlers to the club being Mark ‘Schooners’ Woodward and Peter ‘Tetley’ Cordy versus a team of club stalwarts whose surnames boast more firepower than a World War One battalion of B. Vickers and D. Cannon.
A great tussle ensued with Team Woodward and Cordy breaking out to an early lead ever mindful of the 8 start they gave their opponents the day before. However Team Vickers and Cannon soon returned fire and drew level to bring the game back to all square. After some great bowls during the day it came down to the new kids on the block, Team Woodward Cordy getting the win with a 20-16 victory. Congratulations to both teams on what was a wonderful match to see. That afternoon the celebrations continued with Schooners Woodward showing how he’s earned the nickname while Pete had a nice cup from his teapot.
Round one of the minor singles commence on Sunday with the draw on the club notice board.
This coming weekend is the first round of Pennants matches to be played.
