The extension will include a revamped radio control room, a new training room and increased storage areas.
Unit commander Michael Syrek said the organisation was hoping to get a grant allocation to fund the expansion.
“We are now in the process of getting quotes so we know how much it is going to cost,” he said.
“The current training area is subject to lots of noise and is too small for the amount of members we have.
“The extra storage will be invaluable. Regional controllers will be able to store equipment here.”
The headquarters is currently used as a coordination centre in emergencies and for training exercises involving different emergency services.
The unit is always looking for people to fundraise.
