Men's basketball is about to make a welcome return to Batemans Bay with a competition kicking off in October.
Batemans Bay Breakers spokesman Paul Martin said that there had been a revitalisation of interest in the sport in Batemans Bay.
“We have had lots of scrimmage (informal games) at the basketball stadium, and it has grown from there, so we want to make it a lot more formal,” he said.
The competition folded two years ago.
“It was mainly due to a lack of organisers,” Martin said.
“Plenty of people were keen to play but not organise.”
Martin said four teams were definite starters.
“We are hoping to get five or six, but we will run it with four teams if we have to,” he said.
“Anyone is welcome to play, and if you don’t have a team we can put you in one.”
Martin said Batemans Bay had strong men’s and under 16 and under 18 representative teams, and that the new competition would give them a chance to play regular games in Batemans Bay.
The competition is due to kick off on Thursday October 15 at 6.10pm, and Martin said it would cost about $600 to register a team.
“It will work out about $80 per player,” he said.
