THE Tomakin Fishing Club’s monthly competition was below expectations, owing to inclement weather and a rather rough sea.

Several dedicated anglers did meet the challenges in all areas – blue water, rock, beach and estuary, with mixed results.
As strange as it may seem, those that ventured beyond the shores managed one or two excellent boxes of quality fish.
This is evident by the box on display out of Phil Boneham’s and John Jagleman’s boats and like those other two or three boxes, comprised mainly good table snapper.
The three species out of the bag were gamefish, kingfish and bream.
Two went begging but Brian Bennett landed a nice bream and the prize was well-received.
Phil Boneham took out the blue water section with a 3.020kg snapper and the rock, beach and estuary went to Sam Chambers with a silver drummer weighing 3.22 kilograms.
Chambers was the worthy winner of the senior cock-o-the walk and the junior cock-o-the walk was Brendan Bingley, with a fine morwong of 870 grams.
The competition was open to visitors, as was the annual open competition of the Malua Bay Bowling Club .
Many Tomakin anglers weighed in at this competition, only to be beaten by the smallest of margins.
The October Mighty Bonanza Competition, which falls on the long weekend, will be well represented by some of the club’s regular sponsors and the prizes for the senior entrants will all be in cash for all of the nominated species.
The juniors’ prizes will be top-brand fishing equipment.

Until the next month’s competition on July 5, keep those rods held high and those lines tight.
Good fishing.
