Cr Brown on Wednesday said he had met with a parent on October 23 and had recommended they contact the council’s property staff.
“I suggested they speak to the council’s property staff to look at what sites were available around the Batemans Bay area,” Cr Brown said.
“I had a conversation with the property department, saying this was likely to happen and (asked) were we able to assist with finding a site.”
Cr Brown said the parent had contacted the property department on Tuesday after an encouraging meeting on Saturday with Bega MP Andrew Constance and NSW Disability Minister John Ajaka.
Cr Brown welcomed Bega MP Andrew Constance’s comments on Tuesday that the NSW Government would consider providing “significant funds” to build and run a centre in the Eurobodalla for children aged from birth to 18.
Mr Constance called on the council to help by donating a parcel of land.
Cr Brown said such a donation would be a decision for all councillors, however the council supported the concept.
“We are very keen to support it,” he said.
“We live in an area which is under-resourced for people living with disabilities and we wish to be part of the solution.
“I am hoping there will a number of parcels of land that the group could look at.
“We need to flesh out the size and the scale of the facility.
“Council is very supportive of people in this community with disabilities.
“We have 19 per cent of our population living with a disability.”
However, he said the council regularly received requests from community groups.
“These need to be assessed against council’s current budgetary conditions,” he said.
“Any requests for land need to be assessed against our current capacity to deliver services in the community across the shire.”
