“Every team in the five Moruya age groups made it to the semi-finals, you were brilliant,” club president Mark Hirst told players and supporters at last Saturday’s presentation night at the Moruya Bowling Club.
As a result, the Eurobodalla Football Association (EFA) awarded Moruya the club championship, in effect the club of the year award, at the EFA’s presentation night the week before and all age men’s team Moruya Blue was named team of the year by the EFA.
Also recognised were several Moruya players in the EFA’s player of the year category.
Youth Boys’ Alex Gwynne was the player of the year while all age ladies’ Crystal Staunton was named the runner-up.
Youth girls’ Nakia Moreton-Stewart and under 13s Jack Hirst took home third and Alex Filmer-Smith won the Bruce Smith award.
Other club achievements in the EFA included the club’s youth girls winning the Eurobodalla premiership and minor premiership, with the all age ladies and youth boys narrowly losing in their respective grand finals.
At the Moruya Soccer Club’s presentation night, for the all age men, Robbie Kidd was awarded best and fairest, Dylan Staunton most improved and Greg Downie the coaches award.
In the all age ladies, Crystal Staunton was awarded player of the year, Louise Walker was most consistent and Michelle Zabel took home the coaches award.
Zabel’s service to Moruya was also recognised with the club person of the year award.
