SURFAIR Speedway’s Christmas meeting, held on December 29, went off without a hitch and organisers labelled the event as “very successful” with a crowd in excess of 400 people on hand at the North Moruya track.

Around 40 drivers took part on the evening and several Moruya competitors put in impressive shifts on their hometown track.
Brad Stevens, a life member of the Surfair club, took his No.19 VW type three fastback car that he has been building for a quarter of a century for a spin in memory of his close friend Tom Wilson.
“Brad has been building that car for 25 years and it will be one to reckon with in the future,” Surfair secretary Kay Nash said.
“But all in all, it was a very successful race meeting. We had a big crowd, all the drivers really liked the track and everybody just had a great night.”
Other drivers came from Bega, Canberra and Nowra.
Three other Moruya drivers – Luke Bussa, Joshua Blackburn (both series sedans) and Nick Bussa (second drivers) – made their Surfair debuts and Nash said they would all be competitors to watch down the track.
“We had three new drivers on the night and I think everyone will need to keep an eye out for them from now on,” she said.
The seven vintage formula 500s, all of which travelled down from Canberra especially for the Moruya event, were also a big hit with the cheerful crowd.
Surfair’s next meeting will be held on January 26 from 4pm, with gates open at 1pm.
