THE Bega Sapphire Cup took place at Frogs Hollow on November 3 and 4 and this year, close to 60 competitors took part in the Bega Valley Shire’s major go kart event.

Drivers travelled from as far as Bairnsdale, Canberra, Gippsland, Newcastle, Orange, Wagga Wagga and Wollongong to contest for the golden trophies in two big days of racing.
On the Saturday, three heats were run for each of the 10 classes.
In the rookie class, James Fyfe came first, Taylah Chancellor second, William Granger third, Robert Schilling fourth and Ethan Johnson fifth.
The youngest racers on the day were the cadets – Thomas Sargent topped those standings ahead of Finlay Allen, Josh Haynes, Chloe Cosis and Marty Wright.
In the junior national light class, Lochlan Chancellor claimed first place from runner-up Ryan Johnson.
In the junior national heavy class, first place went to Jack Loftus, Coire Donnelly came second and Christopher Cooper third.
In the junior clubman class, Jack Loftus finished first followed by Lachlan Gibbons in second place and James Otton in third place.
In the junior max class, Joshua Hemphill was fastest with Christopher Cooper a close second.
In the sportsman 125 combined class, Robert Hogan took out first place with Adrian Hogan in second and Batemans Bay’s Mitchell Gatenby in third.
In the tag restricted heavy class, Stephen Southwell came first, Daniel Jaques second and Greg Parker third.
In the tag restricted light class, Matthew Woodward claimed the prime podium position, Lance Ogier finished second and Michael Hogan third.
In the clubman light class, William Lucas came first, Gatenby claimed silver and Matthew Southwell finished third.
Incredibly, there were several lap records broken at this event, including Thomas Sargent (0:37.193) in the cadets, William Lucas (0:34.007) in the clubman light class, Jack Loftus with 0:37.08 in the junior national heavy and 0:33.749 in the junior clubman, and Joshua Hemphill (0:33.494) in the junior max class.
