DR David Christopher Rivett will today be awarded the Order of Australia for service to medicine through professional organisations in the area of rural and remote medicine, and as a general practitioner in the Batemans Bay area.

The Mossy Point resident has served as a GP since 1975 and, as Medical Officer at Batemans Bay Hospital, provided general medical services, obstetrics, anaesthetics, emergency medical services, autopsies and forensic investigation for the police.
Dr Rivett is arguably the Eurobodalla's most passionate and vocal medical professional in matters of concern regarding the shire's health service.
His enthusiasm is displayed through his extensive involvement in many boards.
He is currently the Australian Medical Association (AMA) Rural Reference Group chairman, a member of the Rural Doctors' Association of NSW, and represents the South East NSW Division of General Practice at many events.
In the past he has been the chairman of the Council of General Practice, vice-president of the NSW Branch, AMA Federal Council General Practice Craft Group representative, and a Federal Council NSW Area representative.
He became a Fellow of the Australian Medical Association in 2000 and the Australian College for Rural and Remote Medicine in 1998.
