Part of the Sharks inaugural team, Green had been a constant presence in the number one jersey for the side.
Green’s nickname was bestowed by the president of the club in relation to the way he gets his hands on the ball.
“Bumper (Dave Farrell) came up with that one,” Green said.
“He said I’m like Spider-Man the way I get the ball sometimes.”
Green had his first taste of the captaincy towards the end of last season, when injuries to Clarke and Johnson meant he was given the armband.
He will now lead the team in their defence of the 2016 title.
He said it was an honour to be chosen for the role.

“It’s definitely a big moment for me,” he said.
“The announcement sort of surprised me a little bit, given Tim (Weyman) is coming back from injury, but I’m pretty keen to lead the boys this season.”
There are already strong signs for the Sharks in their preseason, with more than 50 players showing up to a training session last week.
They will also have reason to celebrate before the first round of games is played, with the presentation of the Clayton Cup scheduled for early next month.
As an integral member of last year’s undefeated side, Green said he hoped the new faces in the senior squad will have the opportunity to experience similar success in 2017.
“There are a fair few young blokes who played in the U18s last season that are making the step up, so it will be good to see them take the field,” he said.
“Obviously it is going to be difficult to top last year, but I think we have the boys to put us up there.”
