The Bay Post and Moruya Examiner introduced digital subscriptions this week as your local newspapers switched to a sleek new website, purpose-built to deliver a daily “feed” of local content accessible from your smartphone, tablet or desktop.
Subscribers to the new batemansbaypost.com.au can access news updates from Batemans Bay, Moruya and the surrounding region - all gathered and published by the local journalists of the Bay Post and Moruya Examiner.
Digital subscriptions for access to local news, sport and community information cost $1 a week. Access for the first month is free. Subscribers will be billed monthly and can opt out at any time. A subscription covers five devices, for the whole family.
Website visitors can register for a free weekly e-newsletter of local news highlights curated by editor Kerrie O’Connor.
Publishing technology rolled out across Fairfax Media’s Illawarra and NSW South Coast publications last year has put the Bay Post/Moruya Examiner at the forefront of newspaper and website production worldwide. The new technology allows journalists to publish breaking news immediately at batemansbaypost.com.au.
Group managing editor Kim Treasure said local news was particularly important for regional areas.
“We are continuing to transform to meet the changing needs of our audiences, and to meet the challenges of providing quality local news and information when and how today’s readers want it,” Ms Treasure said.
“As a trusted local voice, the Bay Post/Moruya Examiner will continue to deliver quality journalism online and in print.”
The $1.60 cover price of the newspaper, which is published on Wednesdays and Fridays, remains unchanged.
The Bay Post/Moruya Examiner is part of Fairfax Media’s regional, rural and suburban publishing business, Australian Community Media, a network of hundreds of newspapers and websites in every state and territory.
