Shire businesses shone at the regional South Coast Tourism Awards on Wednesday night.
Making the effort to welcome disabled customers has earned Batemans Bay’s Edgewater Gardens a gold medal for inclusive tourism and bronze for self-contained accommodation.
Batemans Bay-based State Forests of the South Coast won gold in the general tourism services category, and Batemans Bay Manor won a joint gold award for its hosted accommodation. River of Art won silver in the festival/events category, with Granite Town’s Riverlight Dreaming third.
This one gave disabled visitors pride of place, with waterfront views.
The winners were announced at a gala dinner at Shellharbour’s HARS Museum. Eurobodalla Mayor Liz Innes congratulated finalists.
“It’s a great achievement for six local businesses to be shortlisted for the awards and I am proud Eurobodalla was so well represented among the winners,” she said.
“Tourism is a $2 billion a year industry for the South Coast and it is fantastic to see our local tourism operators getting recognition that is so greatly deserved.”
Meanwhile, the Unspoilt South Coast NSW cooperative campaign is again a finalist in the destination marketing category of the 2016 NSW Tourism Awards, after winning gold last year. Region X - Unspoilt Experiences Batemans Bay is shortlisted for ecotourism. Winners will be named next month.
Edgewater Gardens overhauled a unit to welcome vision-impaired and wheelchair bound visitors.
Unlike, many “disability-friendly” units advertised, it gave visitors pride of place at the front of the facility, with waterfront views.
