A week after a successful nines tournament at Ack Weyman Oval, the preseason action moves to Batemans Bay where there will be a representative feast of footy.
It all kicks off at 12pm, with the U16s Southern Stingrays taking on the Southern Redbacks.
The side is coming off a 22-22 all draw against the much-fancied Bidgee Bulls last week, and are under the watchful eye of Bay Tigers captain/coach Tim Del Guzzo.
He said it was great to see his side step up, after a heavy loss in the opening round.
“The boys are definitely on the improve,” he said.
“To come within a point of beating a team that is picked to win it all was a great effort.
“Against the Redbacks, it will be a matter of which team continues to improve and which one stands still.”
Their U18 counterparts will be next up, taking on the Redbacks at 1.20pm. Batemans Bay brothers William and Henry Bruce feature in the U18s squad, and were part of Stingrays’ 54-14 demolition of Bidgee last weekend.
Sharks and Tigers fans will be able to get their fix on the day, with the reserve grade teams from Moruya and Batemans Bay facing off in a trial match at 3pm.
Given the last time the two sides met was during last year’s indigenous round, it is fitting that their game will precede the men’s and women’s Group 16 Indigenous v All Stars games.
The girls will be first on the pitch at 4.15pm, followed by the men at 5.15pm.
Of the 34 players selected for the men’s game, 15 are from the Eurobodalla, including five Batemans Bay players in the Indigenous team.
Del Guzzo said it was a golden opportunity for Tigers players to take their game to the next level.
“It gives those players a chance to be selected for the Group 16 representative team,” he said.
“To have five players included in that team is massive for the club.
“I know what those players are capable of, so the Indigenous side is my pick to win."
