Moruya couple Ronald and Jeannette Miles recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a dinner party at Moruya Bowling Club.

About 28 guests helped the Miles celebrate their golden anniversary including nearly all of their original wedding party.
Ron Miles, first met Jeannette Holzhauser in Temora where Jeannette’s parents ran the Westminster Hotel and Ron played bass guitar in a band the ‘Wim-o-weh’s’.
“The Wim-o-weh’s backed John Farnham at Junee one night,” Ron said.
The hall was a absolutely packed and it was a such a great night,” he said.
“At that time I had a number of girlfriends, and a number of breakups and each time it was Jeannette’s shoulder that I used to go cry on.
“After about three breakups I started going out with Jeannette,” he said.
Ron remembers that they got engaged when he was playing Aussie Rules footy. When he proposed to Jeannette, she said, “You marry me, you marry my dog.”
“We’ve had dogs ever since,” Ron said.
Ron and Jeanette were married on October 1, 1966.
With family to consider, Ron started working for the Northern Riverina Country Council as a probationary linesman eventually becoming leading hand live-linesman with the Electricity Authority working on up to 66,000 volts.
In 1969 Ron and Jeannette had their first baby, Ryan followed by Corey in 1970, Trent in 1972 and Jay in 1975.
In 1982 the Miles family moved to Moruya where Ron found a job doing electrical work with Illawarra County Council and Jeannette opened Moruya Curtains that she managed for 12 years.
Ron and Jeannette have eight grandchildren and one great grandson.
