It was an early start for the girls, travelling down the Hume Highway to Tumut.
Their first of four games began at 11.10 am against a tough Jindabyne Piglets team.
This was a grinding game which saw the Boars win 24-15. Leila Patyus, Bonnie Brewer, Sarah Shooks and Jayde O’Shannessy scored fine team tries, and Roxy Horne kicked two good conversions.
In the next game, the Boars were too experienced for the Braidwood team who are all learning.
They ran away with this game, scoring a massive 10 tries and six conversions to take the score to 62-0.
Captain Bonnie Brewer opened the scoring with a runaway try, and Meg Phillips finished the game with a nice incisive run through the backs.
Roxy turned up everywhere and scored five tries, Jayde two tries, and Christina Bruce another try. It was a great team effort.
Christina, Leila and Roxy kicked six conversions between them, which is really good news because these points can be so vital in Rugby 7s.
The third game saw the Boars play Wests from Canberra.
The girls really showed their rugby skills in this game, with intelligent rucking and mauling, keeping possession with great running and passing skills.
Sarah Shooks scored two determined 50 metre tries. The teamwork and backing up saw all of the team involved in nearly every touch-down. There were seven tries and two conversions in the 39-0 victory.
It was a long day, and after a long wait the girls played their last game of the tournament against a very tough and reinforced Far South Coast Falcons team from Bega.
After a torrid start where both teams tested their respective defences, the Falcons broke through a couple of tackles and scored.
The Boars fought back but could not break through their strong defence. They tried hard again and again but kept turning the ball over, and the Falcons scored their second try as the final siren went.
The Boars went down 10-0, but these nine girls should be very proud of their day, winning three from four again.
The valuable bonus points they picked up should put them in the Grand Final at Wagga Wagga on Saturday, October 21.
