Club media manager Mikaila Lanfear said riders from all over NSW were revving up for the August 19 and 20 event.
“We have riders coming from Canberra, Sydney, Bathurst and as far north as Coffs Harbour,” Ms Lanfear said.
The meet will also have an interstate presence, as one rider will come all the way from Brisbane to compete.
The BMX track, on the corner of George Bass Drive and Calga Crescent, has undergone extensive works to make sure it is ready for the weekend.
Ms Lanfear said there had been heavy trackwork for the past 12 weeks, but the planning began six months ago.
And the hard work is worth it, as this is only one of two meets to get the title of Country Open, an event that riders must participate in if they want to qualify for the National Championships.
Although the event does have some prestige attached, it is a relatively new endeavor for the club.
“Last year’s meet was the first time Batemans Bay had hosted an Open event in 32 years,” Ms Lanfear said.
The event will begin on Saturday, as professional riders Alex Cameron and Gemma-Lee Thomas will host two training sessions.
The 11am session will feature Cameron riding as Thomas explains his moves to the audience. Their roles will be reversed for the 1pm session.
Both sessions will be open to the public, and will be a chance to watch two talented riders strut their stuff.
Sunday will see the main action, with practice running from 8am to 10am. Racing starts at 10am.
“Due to the high number of riders, we could see up to five hours of racing,” Ms Lanfear said.
The club also encourages the community to get involved in BMX racing.
“We hold open training sessions on Monday and Wednesday nights, and no experience is necessary,” Ms Lanfear said.
The club caters for all age groups, from the ‘Mini-Wheelers’ to the 50+ men’s division.
