Ms Dunn said she never misses the swim, and there were more than just health benefits.
“It gives me a purpose for keeping fit,” Ms Dunn said.
“Even preparing for it is a real joy.
“It’s such a social and happy occasion,” she said.
Coordinator Gary Pettigrove said the 1.4 kilometre course, from Broulee Island around the headland to South Broulee Beach, was a wonderful community event.
“We usually get an enthusiastic crowd of around 300 competing in 18 senior and open categories,” Mr Pettigrove said.
“We also have a shorter 500 metre swim for junior entrants.”
He said although prizes included $300 for the open winners and $100 for the fastest in the senior categories, everyone who swam was a winner.
“(It’s) because of the shared satisfaction of swimming in a particularly pretty bit of ocean with a nice mob of people,” Mr Pettigrove said.
Vincent Dunn of Canberra said it was a family event and, for the second time, he will have competition from his daughter Charlotte, who said she was determined to beat her dad.
Charlotte said she had a good chance, “because he’s old”.
The event is sponsored by Hotondo Homes and supported by the Broulee Surfers Surf Life Saving Club and the Broulee Mossy Point Community Association. Entries and more information: http://oceanswim.brouleesurfersslsc.org.au/
