The drought is resonating with our readers, with many choosing to get behind farmers in regions experiencing much harsher conditions than our own.
The Eurobodalla Shire has been spared the worst of the big dry, but anyone buying in feed for livestock knows just how short the supply of hay is.
If you can, get over to the Village Centre, where Harvey Norman Batemans Bay staff have volunteered to run a pop-up shop and fundraising raffle for the Buy a Bale campaign.
Fairfax Media is supporting the Buy a Bale cause and you can learn more at www.buyabale.com.au
More than $15,000 in goods is up for grabs in a raffle to be drawn on Saturday, September 1.
Other volunteers submerged in work this weekend are the good folk at the Moruya and District Historical Society.
They are pulling together the travelling show, Submerged, from the Australian National Maritime Museum.
Eurobodalla Mayor Liz Innes will open the event on Saturday, September 1 at 2pm.
Ever enthusiastic curator Brian Harris said the show had moved from Batemans Bay, but had its own Moruya “hooks”.
“A couple of really good ones are a terrific Indigenous perspective in the wreck of the Rover at Broulee,” Mr Harris said.
“Survivors of the wreck were rescued by Aboriginal men, who were later given breastplates by Captain Older after the government refused to reward their bravery.”
Stay tuned for the legend of the Kameruka pigs.
“The Kameruka was wrecked off Pedro Point and legend has it that ropes were tied to pigs and they were tossed overboard,” Mr Harris said.
“One managed to swim to Pedro Point and the rope was attached to the big rock at Pedro point - and all lived happily ever after.”
Look out for news on the “SSs Monaro (Kellys Point, Bingie), the Bodalla (Narooma Bar) and the Catherine ( Bermagui Harbour)”.
Finally, the best of wishes to Stephanie Lunn, who is representing the shire in the regional QUOTA Student of the Year contest.
The Moruya High School student impressed judges, including from the Bay Post/Moruya Examiner, in June when she won the Batemans Bay heat.
