Breakers drew with Shoalhaven Tigers (45-all) in game 1. After maintaining a healthy lead in Q1, Shoalhaven shot an incredible 13 three pointers in quarters 2 and 3, while only scoring 6 inside baskets for the whole game. Breakers ramped up the outside defence and came back to level the game at fulltime but couldn’t find the final point or two to take the win.
Breakers beat a slightly depleted Illawarra Hawks Red side in game 2 by about 20 points – this was the Hawks’ first loss for the season. Hawks’ guards and forwards always present a serious threat, so our boys ensured the lead was kept long and healthy to buffer any come back attempts.
Game 3 was a fast and furious affair against the Milton Ulladulla Dolphins. The Dolphins have a very strong men’s side with big talented forwards and centres, and quick, athletic guards that play above the rim. Fortunately Breakers also have the same level of talent.
After maintaining a small lead for most of the game, Breakers put the pedal to the metal and pulled away in Q3, and with a three ball to seal the win with less than 2 min in Q4, we put the game to bed by 6 points.
Finals will be played at Wollongong’s Snake Pit on October 16th where Breakers men will tip off against the Dolphins.
